Seeing Antarctica Through Children's Eyes
This study seeks to understand how children between the ages of 5 and 12 represent the white continent. Drawing on various art competitions held in Chile, Argentina, and Mexico, it explores the images, ideas, and emotions that young people associate with Antarctica.
These representations offer a valuable window into how a distant and largely unknown territory lives in the imagination of those who have never set foot on it.
Why It Matters
By examining these children's imaginaries, the study aims to develop a proposal to explore and highlight the most relevant aspects that will foster awareness of Antarctica among future citizens and decision-makers.
Understanding how the continent is imagined today helps us shape how it will be valued, protected, and understood tomorrow.
